Time Capsule to Be Opened in 25 Years

A time capsule commemorating the
Foundation’s 25th anniversary will be
buried at the new Railyard Park when
construction is complete this fall.
Designed by local artist Brett Chomer,
the capsule contains an aerial map of
Santa Fe as it appears today along with
2006 mementos and residents’ wishes
for their community 25 years from
now. Among these wishes:

“More residential living, more bicycles,
streetcars, fewer cars and balance in the
downtown area. Outdoor restaurants
with patio gardens and ponds. A
revitalized Santa Fe River with water,
open spaces and children’s playgrounds.

More jobs with higher wages for
our people.” –John Barker

“The city and county cultural, political
and business leaders will make the idea
of sustainability the foundation for their
decision making, and the importance of
diverse and comprehensive educational
and recreational opportunities for children
will be recognized, funded and delivered.”
–Aku Ed Oppenheimer

“Santa Fe will be a city with clean air,
clean water, clean streets and beautiful
landscape. Politicians will be honest and
open. There will be social justice – fair
wages and tolerance. Families will be
small, children well parented. There
will be good schools, good nutrition
and healthcare for all.” –Harold and
Norma Brown
